The annual Houston Oktoberfest takes place in September. There will be beer, beer, and more beer. Imported beer, German beer, local craft beer, Oktoberfest releases and other savory seasonal beers will be served up while music plays, bratwursts are served and people play cornhole, beer pong, or attend the chicken dance contest or yodeling contest.
While many people will be taking Uber, others will bring DDs. And others will attempt to sober up before hitting the road. Unfortunately, the event is 6 hours long. Somewhere around 3 or 4 hours in your confidence is at an all time high. You are drinking malty Oktoberfest beers and decide you can drive yourself home. You get behind the wheel only to discover some flashing lights in the rearview before you can safely arrive home. Yes, Officer Friendly saw you crossing the double yellow lines a minute ago.
You just got a DWI.
Thankfully nobody was hurt but you are facing some serious consequences for your actions. This moment of bad judgment doesn’t have to ruin your life. Never do it again. And, hire a good lawyer.
Am I going to prison?
An experienced Houston DWI lawyer like myself can get you the best outcome for your case. Just because you have been arrested doesn’t necessarily mean that you are going to go to prison. You don’t want that to happen, as there is no Oktoberfest served in the slammer. In Texas, the judge can opt to keep you out of prison. This depends on a variety of factors which I can discuss with you.
Will I lose my driver’s license?
You are entitled to an Administrative License Revocation Hearing and may be represented by an attorney. Even if your driving privileges are suspended, with the help of a good lawyer it is possible to obtain a hardship license that will allow you to drive to and from work. As pointed out here, DUI is a crime of opinion.
